acrylic and emulsion paint on canvas

The paintings I am exhibiting are mainly about the human face. I want to convey fleeting but deeply felt emotions. Sometimes I find I need to use gestural marks with paint, more like fast drawing to suggest the energy behind the feeling I am trying to portray. Other times I try to simplify and not embellish. I am interested in how the rather rough, perhaps unrefined paint surfaces and marks can suggest a transitory, sad, unspoken feeling. Whereas I use acrylic paint mainly, I am not particularly bound by any media. For example, I often use white emulsion paint mixed in, I enjoy that chalky unrefined finish, again perhaps reflecting a sense of the ephemeral, maybe even a sense of the undervalued but at the same universal.
