London
My work represents a distillation and close examination of the chosen subject, an alignment of form, colour and atmosphere that attempts a resonance beyond the every day. Landscapes both real and of the imagination feature prominently, with a recurrent fascination with sacred and magical places, A Spirit of Place mood where one sometimes perceives the ancestral voice. A recent thread of work involves the life and poetry of Sylvia Plath, following on from a period of engagement with another American poet T.S Eliot, who lived and died in England. Chain like synchronicities have informed this work, after being present at certain key locations when degrees of sensitivity have occurred. Symbolism exists in some of the painting, others may be more straightforwardly examined, such as the flower pieces and representations of the human form. Drawing is ongoing, practised, and I teach the subject to undergraduates.
