I am a freelance printed textile designer for interiors and a part time lecturer at Central Saint Martins. I am very hands on and spend a lot of time in the print room showing students different print and dye techniques. I run drawing and design development workshops in the studio. My own practice is based on these methods and is closely linked.
My recent works are a collection of happy moments from my time swimming in the sea of my hometown, the lido nearby and the ponds. I look for colours and make marks that try to capture the light and movement of the water and the people in it. I combine this with earlier textile design images and patterns that I have kept over the years. The compositions are rhythmic and pattern like, but there is no longer a need for repeat and the scale is larger. The overall shapes evolve as I go and are not confined to commercial requirements. The pieces are mixed media, combining crayon, Gouache, Acrylic, Mono printing, Ink and Watercolour. They are intercut together with a scalpel, giving a crisp, seamless, graphic feel and interesting contrasts of mark and media
