I see the world in shapes, hence my preference for the abstract. I work mainly in acrylic paint but also experiment with other materials and make limited edition prints. My inspiration starts with visual exploration, usually found in places I’ve visited or what’s unfolding in my life. Forms start to appear from visual recall or a quick sketch, then I work with blocks of colour, creating multiple layers and texture. People often comment that my work has an air of nostalgia. I am certainly in awe of the St Ives artists of the 40s to 60s who sought to sensuously experience rather than figuratively represent their surroundings.
