Julia Clarke’s sculptures have a strong sense of place. With their bold shapes and presence, you can see the way they are made, each sculpted piece of clay or willow rod, formed and sculpted meditatively.
Julia loves working with the tactile qualities of natural materials such as ceramics and willow and enjoys the tension and possibilities created between art and craft. Influenced by both contemporary sculpture, abstraction and ceramics, she creates sculptures that are unique and evoke a sense of calm playfulness and connection for the viewer.
Julia works from her studio at home in Crouch End, and her shared ceramic studio in Holloway. She was an artist educator for many years, while also making sculpture for indoor and outdoor spaces.
Julia has worked with many clients, from garden to interior designers, schools and charities. Recent works includes creating site specific pieces for Kew Gardens, local commissions for the Arthouse cinema – large scale public sculptures for Conningbrook Lakes development in Kent, and Alexandra Palace art sculpture trail. She created 12 large scale willow sculptures for the Mandarin Oriental Hotel at Hanover Square – and her latest venture is to be part of the new website for Sculpture for gardens THEM OUTDOORS. This year she has enjoyed showing with Galleries Ruup & Form and Art Friend Gallery at the Affordable Art Fair.
