I have a BA Hons in Ceramics and have now been working professionally as a ceramic artist for over 25 years. My work is shown in galleries both in the UK and abroad. I work primarily in stoneware using a hand building technique called coiling to make unique sculptural vessels. Once I have sculpted the forms, I use the surface as a painter would a canvas and paint on layers of coloured slip, (liquid clay coloured with various oxides), creating tonal shifts and subtle hues. An ash glaze is then applied which diffuses and quietens the colour and brings a satin smoothness to the finished piece.
I also make a range of wheel thrown tableware that has been sold in the Conran shops in London and Paris, Heal’s on Tottenham Court Road and the Tate Britain shop.
