I paint from observation which for me is the most exciting way of creating an image. Each colour is mixed carefully on the palette and applied in flat patches on the surface of the canvas. I try to keep each brushstroke separate and build up the layers until I achieve an accurate depiction of the subject. I want the technique and process to be part of the painting so that the viewer will be able to follow how the image was created. Sometimes this takes days, sometimes months.
