My collection of still-life photographic artwork -‘Spheres’ came about using a technique I developed without using digital manipulation or filters. The reflections and 3D effect draws the eye into a deeper emotional or imaginative journey. Over a period of many days I carefully select natural elements and arrange them on mirrored surfaces. Working with natural light I wait until the reflections appear at a particular time of day – often dusk before I take my shot. I tend to wait until the level of ripeness or decay of the fruit or plant is just right. The inspirations for my style include Victorian circular art, and the colour pallets of both Pre-Raphaelite and the Dutch Masters still-life paintings. The more modern artists that inspire me include Robert Maplethorpe and Georgia O’Keeffe.
