I am currently working on groups of handformed plates.
During the first lockdown in 2020, I started a project called #onionsinlockdown. Sitting in the kitchen, I noticed the lines and the layers that appear when you cut an onion in half. The patterns made by the onion layers led to a group of terracotta plates. At a time when we all had to retreat inside, I suppose it was inevitable that my new work was introspective.
Fast forward to January 2021, when we had just entered our third lockdown, and I became obsessed with lemons. The sky was grey, my studio was freezing, and things were looking bleak. I needed to make something to represent hope, and I started dreaming of lemons. I have always loved the colour and flavour of lemons – they represent warmth, light, and lazy days in the Mediterranean to me.
