Sarah Elliot

As a painter I am inspired by colour and the natural world. With a background in children’s publishing, there is an illustrative quality to my work which is playful and combines drawn and painted elements. An interest in folk art and textiles also informs my paintings and ceramics.

Still life (especially vases of flowers) is a subject I often choose to explore with mixed media. I use my observational drawings as a springboard into explorations of colour, pattern and form using acrylic paint, watercolour, gouache, pen, pencil, pastel and collage. I love experimenting with limited palettes and exploring the ways in which drawing and painting combine, layering drawn marks on top of areas of paint. I have recently become interested in transforming my paintings into ceramic animals and plates.

Working from my garden studio in Crouch End, I enjoy documenting my work and writing about what inspires me in my monthly newsletter.

I studied Fine Art at City Lit and have shown my work in London at Espacio Gallery, Burgh House and Crouch End Town Hall. I had my first solo show at Queen’s Wood Café in Highgate  and a joint show at the Gallery at the Playroom. My work was chosen for Cheltenham Spring Gallery and the Annual Open Exhibition 2025 at the RWA in Bristol. I exhibited at Highgate Art Fair in 2025.
