Charity Sale in Aid of Open Door     Thurs 16 Nov 6.00 – 8.30 pm

CEOS is proud to host a Charity sale event in aid of Open Door. Based in Haringey, Open Door specialise in the mental health and emotional wellbeing of adolescents and young adults aged 12-24.

Artists are making original small works to support this Charity. Each original piece will be priced at £50 and all proceeds will go to Open Door. The works can be viewed here and will be available to purchase at a special sale evening on Thursday 16 November 6 – 8.30pm. All welcome!

Curators tour for families     Sun 12 Nov 2.30 pm

Join artist and Crouch End Open Studios member Susie Breen for a family-friendly curators tour of the CEOS November Exhibition. During the tour, Susie Breen will lead visitors through the exhibition, sharing her insights on the works on display and highlighting the techniques and inspiration behind select pieces. The tour is family-friendly, making it the perfect opportunity for art lovers of all ages to engage with the local creative community and gain a deeper understanding of the art on display. Don’t miss this chance to explore the vibrant and diverse works of some of Crouch End’s most talented artists!


Make a simple ‘Sun’ print
     Sun 12 Nov 2.00 pm

Aimed at families this is a short workshop where two CEOS artists Elizabeth Brown and Eva Turrell will introduce you to how you can make a simple ‘blue and white’ (Cyanotype) using prepared materials and the Sun. They will try and make it fun, give you a small print to take away with you and instructions as to how you can do this at home. NB: In case there is no Sun we will have some Artificial Sun to enable us to do this.

Jo Angell will talk and show work from her recent artists residency in Ireland

Artist Jo Angell invites you to an informal talk and showing of the sketches and paintings she made whilst on an artist residency in a town in County Kerry, Ireland, this year.

 

Artist Talk and Film Screening     Sat 18 Nov 4.30 pm

Andy Metcalf and Giles Perring Show and discuss the making of the film ‘Exposure’

Andy and Giles created a multi-media exhibition  ‘ Exposure’  which included film; sound; installation; painting and photography. We toured Scotland with Exposure in 2021-2022; and then showed it in Brighton in 2023;  The film ‘ Exposure’  we shot and post-produced on the Isle of Jura in the Inner Hebrides. Both Andy and Giles have worked extensively in the independent film and broadcast TV industry. For this film, we used a process of production entirely alien to these industries. We will be discussing this and other aspects of the film with Richard Peacock on Saturday 18 November.

Join us for an in-depth and personal look into a selection of Crouch End Open Studio artists’ practices and artworks. During this event, you will have the opportunity to speak to the artists about how they create their work and what inspires them. Showing a range of disciplines, selected artists will welcome you to the November group show and be available for you to ask questions and get to know them and their work in more detail.

Workshop: Instagram for artists in 2023 – updates and ideas for getting the best out of Instagram

Art Marketing Consultant Holly Collier’s upcoming workshop on social media best practices is a must-attend for artists looking to boost their online presence. Artist Demonstrations    Sun 14 May 12.00-3.45 pm

Meet local artists working in a range of mediums and learn more about how they create their work through a series of artist demonstrations. Taking place at Hornsey Library as part of the CEOS May exhibition, visitors can witness the creative process firsthand as artists demonstrate techniques such as painting, drawing, and sculpture. This interactive experience provides a unique opportunity to engage with the local art community and gain insight into the creative process.

Family Mosaic Workshop     Sat 10 Sept 2022 12 – 4.30

Come and join CEOS mosaicist Barbara Mansi on Saturday 10 September in creating beautiful new mosaics. These will be displayed in the Hornsey Children Library.  You can come along anytime during the day,  start a new piece or continue what someone else has started. The aim is to have fun creating beautiful work from the contribution of creative ideas from a diverse group of children and adults alike.

You will be using a variety of material such as broken tiles or china, bottle tops, buttons, pebbles, stones, old CDs and wires on pre-prepared small pieces of wood.

Please bring along anything you can spare of the material mentioned above or anything that you think might be appropriate and Barbara will help you along the way.

 

Promoting Art on Social Media     Sun 11 Sept 2022 12.30 – 1.30

Art Marketing Consultant Holly Collier will present a workshop on best practices for promoting your art on social media. She’ll share tips for increasing your visibility online, give suggestions for creating effective posts and look at simple ideas for using Instagram Stories and Reels.The workshop will focus on Instagram and will include some brief practical tasks, making use of the CEOS group show on-site, but Holly will also give a brief overview of the other main social media platforms and there will be time for Q&A at the end.

 

Ukrainian Embroidery     Sun 11 Sept 3 2022 2.30 -3.30

Embroidery is a strong tradition in Ukraine. Regions and villages have their own designs, and beautifully hand-embroidered garments are worn on high days and holidays. On Sunday there will be a chance to meet Ukrainian guests living in Haringey, see first hand their lovely dresses, and hear about the embroidery techniques designs and traditions of their country. Just come along!

Showing a range of disciplines, 10 selected artists will welcome you to the group exhibition and be available for you to ask questions and get to know them and their work in more detail. The group show will include 60 artworks from all the artists participating in the Art Trail so it’s a great way to find out who you’d like to visit during the open studio weekend.

Nature-inspired community workshops 2021

Crouch End Open Studios invited the local community to come together and participate in a series of free workshops inspired by Nature, held in August 2021. The workshops were led by Crouch End Open Studios Artists Barbara Mansi, Elizabeth Brown, Julia Clarke and Lara Harwood and Held at Alexandra Palace.

The work produced during these workshops formed The Mobile Garden Sculpture to reflect our thoughts around nature and the environment. This community sculpture was exhibited at Hornsey Library.
